HEAVY RIGID LICENCE IN MACKAY

Heavy Rigid

An HR (heavy rigid) licence permits drivers to pursue a career in the construction and mining industries. It is the highest class of heavy vehicle licence that you can obtain from holding a car licence.

What Can You Drive?

  • An MR (medium rigid) class vehicle
  • Buses or trucks (i.e. prime movers, mobile cranes) with 3 or more axles and over 8t GVM
  • Towed trailer with up to 9t GVM
  • A bus that can bend in the middle (articulated bus)

TO QUALIFY FOR A HR LICENCE CLASS, YOU MUST BE OVER 19 YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE HELD A CAR LICENCE FOR TWO YEARS OR MORE

Compared to LR and MR driving courses, you get 10 hours of training in HR. Our experienced instructors will teach you to drive a vehicle with a synchromesh gearbox. Available throughout Mackay, Sarina and Walkerston, R2B Heavy Vehicle Driving School provides professional HR driving lessons.

Heavy Rigid - Automatic

Automatic truck for training 

This package can be done in a day. Once completed they are entitled to B condition licence which covers syncomesh and automatic not crash box. Crash box is a separate licence.

HEAVY RIGID OPEN

If you’re looking to obtain a heavy rigid (open) licence, R2B Heavy Vehicle Driving School offers skilled training in Mackay. Holding an HR open licence permits you to drive vehicles with a crash box and synchromesh gearbox.

What Can You Drive?

  • An LR (light rigid) and MR (medium rigid) class vehicle
  • Heavy vehicles with 3 or more axles & over 8t GVM
  • Towed trailer with less than 9t GVM

TO QUALIFY FOR THIS LICENCE CLASS, YOU MUST BE OVER 19 YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE OBTAINED A CAR LICENCE FOR TWO YEARS OR MORE

For this training, we’ll teach you how to master the crash box or double-clutch gearbox. Once you obtain an HR open licence, you can also drive heavy vehicles with a synchromesh gearbox.


You get 10 hours of training in HR open once you enrol with us. All training courses exclude TMR fees.

An HC (Heavy Combination) Licence Qualifies You To Drive Trucks With One Trailer

What Can You Drive?

  • An HR (heavy rigid) class vehicle
  • Heavy vehicles (i.e. prime movers, low loaders) with a single trailer & unladen converter dolly attached
  • Ridged motor vehicles attached to a trailer plus any unladen converted dolly weighing over 9t GVM

To Qualify For A HC Driving Licence, You Must:

  • Be over 19 years of age
  • Have held a car licence for two years or more
  • Have obtained an MR or HR licence for at least 12 months
